AUS Student Lecture Series presents an inspirational lecture on hope and faith
The Student Leadership Program at the AUS Office of Student Affairs organized an inspirational lecture entitled "Journey of Faith and Hope: from Houston to Sharjah." The lecture was delivered by Luis Abd Al-Rahman Garcia, a senior student majoring in mass communication, with a minor in international and governmental studies. Garcia also served as the president of the Student Council in the academic year 2011-2012. The lecture was a part of the AUS Student Lecture Series.
The lecture revolved around Garcia's personal struggles and how he managed to overcome various obstacles. Garcia informed his audiences that life by itself is the most influential school; problems and challenges never end but they make a person stronger. He said belief and hope were his guidance through all the troubles to result with lots of achievements.
"I think that I can speak for everyone who attended the lecture when I say that Luis is such an inspiration to all of us. Sharing his story couldn't have been easy at all; nevertheless he did it. I have learned a lot from Luis, most importantly that if you truly believed in something great nothing and no one should ever make you change your beliefs. Also no matter how hard and tough your life becomes, eventually it will turn around for the better. I'm really glad that I got to know Luis and be part of his loving AUS family," said Mohammad Hukan, senior student in electrical engineering.
"The lecture by Luis taught me that perseverance is a great key to anything in life. Somehow destiny played a role in making him what he is today, but more importantly, it was his dependence on God's grace," said Christian Momah, sophomore student, majoring in chemical engineering.
"The AUS Student Lecture Series is an initiative by Office of Student Affairs' Student Leadership Program to offer students an opportunity to inspire others by sharing their personal life experiences and talking about their failures and success. Luis's lecture was a good lesson for all of us; today we learned that with hope and faith you can overcome challenges in life. Students realized that everyone deals with crisis differently but achievement is when we pass over them successfully by determination and patience," said Dr. Moza Al Shehhi, Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs.
