AUS student volunteers attend UAE Red Crescent orientation
To enrich the scope of voluntary work at the university, AUS Community Services organized a meeting for interested students with the UAE Red Crescent on March 11 to guide them through the multitude of charity events for which they can volunteer. The meeting was attended by over 85 Community Services volunteers.
During the orientation, the students expressed their interest in expanding their volunteering horizon outside the campus walls to the UAE community as a whole.
"We believe in our students' capabilities and their willingness to perform charity work. They are kind-hearted and selfless individuals who continuously support AUS's community outreach initiatives. We have invited the UAE Red Crescent to present to our students the many volunteering opportunities available to them," said Dr. Moza Al Shehhi, Dean of Students.
During the meeting, members of the UAE Red Crescent gave an informative and inspirational speech about the vision of the organization, which is "to deliver consistent excellence and a pioneering spirit in humanitarian work." The representative explained that the organization's mission is to support official authorities in maintaining the dignity of human beings, combating poverty and diseases, and facing disasters-both locally and internationally-through strong partnerships and voluntary work. This was followed by a presentation that illustrated the start of Red Crescent-UAE, and a briefing about recent campaigns carried out locally and internationally.
The meeting was concluded by a brief explanation on of how students could register to help with the Red Crescent within the UAE.
The UAE Red Crescent is the sole representative of the International Red Crescent within the borders of the UAE and has carried out charitable and humanitarian work in the region since 1983.
