AUS students attend Al Maktoum College Summer School Program
Five students from the Office of Students Affairs' Student Leadership Program (SLP) attended a summer school program at Al Maktoum College of Higher Education in Dundee, Scotland, July 20-August 15, 2015. The program is designed to challenge and expand the participants' intellectual skills and to provide them with the knowledge and skills required for active leadership for the 21st century.
Sixty female students from the UAE, Egypt and Malaysia participated in the summer program. Participating AUS students were Budoor Al Khaja, Ayesha Al Hashmi, Sara Ismail, Nada Matter and Fatma Al Khaja.
"This was a life changing experience for me; it helped me look at the world from a different perspective by learning about different cultures, from the UK to Malaysia and Egypt," said Ayesha Al Hashmi, an AUS student majoring in marketing. "It opened my mind to the diverse opinions of others and their ways of living. We went as strangers and came back as sisters with memories that will never be forgotten. I'm really grateful to have been part of this journey and to have the opportunity to gain this amazing experience."
According to Dr. Moza Al Shehhi, Dean of Students at AUS, "Al Maktoum College Summer School Program is a wonderful opportunity for students to develop their leadership abilities and cultural understanding. We are delighted to continue to send students biannually to Al Maktoum College and look forward to future collaboration."
