AUS students participate in biomedical poster competition
American University of Sharjah (AUS) students participated in the first AUS Biomedical Poster Design Competition which was held at the Main Building on Tuesday, May 19, 2015. Participating students were divided into teams of two to four members each. Each team was asked to present an existing biomedical problem and propose a solution in their posters.
The competition was planned and organized by the Engineering in Medicine and Biology Society (EMBS) student chapter at AUS in collaboration with Philips Healthcare Middle East.
"This has been an excellent opportunity for students to present their research in the biomedical area. We had eight posters that presented significant and original ideas. This event concludes a very successful first year of the IEEE-EMBS chapter at AUS," said Dr. Ghaleb Husseini, the AUS EMBS Student Chapter faculty advisor, who was also one of the competition judges.
"Creating the poster was fun and beneficial to helping my team think creatively and come up with an innovative ideas. The skills I have learned from this competition will remain invaluable to my future in the field of biomedical engineering," stated Rita Kassermally, a chemical engineering sophomore with a minor in biomedical engineering, who was one of the participants.
"Transforming healthcare in the Middle East starts with innovation and education. We are proud of our partnership with AUS, and we would like to express our commitment to education and quality of healthcare in UAE and we are positive that such educational programs will help local talents become the region's next generation of healthcare leaders," commented Reinier Schlatmann, General Manager of Philips Health Systems Gulf.
