AUS students raise funds for Sharjah Autism Centre
Community Services at AUS raised funds for the Sharjah Autism Centre during the AUS Model United Nations conference held February 25-27, 2016. Attendees from various schools and universities as well as conference visitors made donations to the Sharjah Autism Centre at a booth run by Community Services.
Following the conference, 13 volunteers from Community Service visited the Sharjah Autism Centre on March 8 to learn more about the center. The students also presented a check with the amount raised during AUSMUN to Sharjah Autism Centre's management.
The visit gave the volunteers the chance to interact with the children who use the center's services. At the end of the visit, the students offered to volunteer in the center.
Dr. Moza Al Shehhi, Dean of Students, said, "We are proud of our student volunteers for their continuous support and enthusiasm towards humanitarian initiatives. Our partner organizations are equally proud of our students' work and achievements. Their recent fund raising efforts during the AUSMUN event yielded a good amount that benefitted children under the care of Sharjah Autism Centre. I encourage our students to take part in volunteering activities at Community Services so that they may experience and learn the value of helping those in needs and to giving back to society."
