AUS students volunteer in National Day operetta
Students from American University of Sharjah (AUS) volunteered at the National Day operetta held on December 2 at the Sharjah Flag Island on the occasion of the 42nd UAE National Day. Entitled "The Story of a Flag - a Nation's Dream," the event was held Under the Patronage of His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan Bin Mohammad Al Qassimi, Member of the Supreme Council of the United Arab Emirates and Ruler of Sharjah, by the Sharjah Investment and Development Authority (Shurooq).
The hour-long operetta featured nine musical acts performed by renowned Emirati singers as well as over 750 local schoolchildren. The event was concluded with a spectacular firework display that lit up the sky to an awesome scene of color, sound and light that mirrored the Emirati people's joy and happiness for their country's achievements throughout the 42 years.
AUS student volunteers played a great role in helping the organizers make the event a huge success, by helping prior and during the event. The volunteers assisted the organizing team in the preparations before the event as well as in ushering and in many other tasks entrusted to them. The volunteers enjoyed the celebrations after accomplishing their tasks successfully.
Al Anood Dabbour, a sophomore in business management said, "It was an amazing experience for me to work and volunteer for such a well-organized and committed crew, I would definitely like to do it again if given the chance."
Dr. Moza Al Shehi, Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs said, "In volunteering in events like this, our students learn the value of patriotism and unity as pillars of a nation's success. I thank our students for their efforts and for supporting the celebrations of a very important day in Emirati history."
The students' participation in the event was organized by Office of Student Affairs' Community Services.
