American University of Sharjah (AUS) cricket team beat London American City College (LACC) to win the Maxtalent Pride Cup Interuniversity Cricket Tournament held on November 23 at the Sharjah Cricket Stadium.
This is the second year in a row that AUS cricketers have won the Maxtalent Intercollegiate Cup. AUS defeated Herriot Watt University, Canadian University and Manipal University on their way to the finals.
Winning the toss, AUS captain Fahad Tariq invited LACC to bat first on a pitch where spinners were expected to get some assistance. For AUS, Shahzada Harris grabbed two wickets for 26 runs while Fahad Tariq and Ankur Gopal picked up one each. Shahrukh Khan with his medium pace and Sohaib Ali with spin restricted the LACC batsman from scoring.
In reply, AUS lost their consistent scorer Arqam Aftab early to a run out. However, Abdul Basit played a match winning innings, smashing 69 off 53 balls while Shahzada Harris slammed 50 off 44. AUS completed the run chase in 18.2 overs at the expense of only three wickets.
