CAAD students attend a study tour in Hong Kong
Eleven students and alumni from the College of Architecture, Arts and Design (CAAD) at American University of Sharjah (AUS) participated in a study tour to Hong Kong October 3-9.
In its second edition, the study tour, which was conducted by Assistant Professor of Architecture Cristiano Luchetti, gave students the opportunity to develop a critical analog between the local urban environment and mature global cities. They also visited different districts of the city-Central, Sheung Wan, Tsim Sha Tsui and Kennedy Town-and also traveled to outlying islands and fishing villages located on the south side of Hong Kong Island. Finally, students also had the opportunity to visit local architectural firms to experience contemporary professional practice environments and see recent projects.
According to participating student Taraneh Sahban, "Travelling to Hong Kong was an incredible Far East adventure. We walked down the densest streets and used different kinds of public transportation that took us to the most beautiful beaches and mountains within minutes from the crowded city districts. Finally, the advanced urban and rural infrastructural organizations were among the most interesting aspects of Hong Kong to me."
