New Student Athletics Orientation held at AUS
More than 50 students attended the New Student Athletics Orientation for Spring 2013 at the Sports Complex on February 4, held by the Student Athletics and Recreation Department of the Office of Student Affairs.
Dr. Moza Al Shehhi, Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs, welcomed the new students at the event and encouraged them to participate in the various sports programs that AUS offers. "The learning experience that you as students gain outside the classrooms shapes 80 percent of your experience during academic life. Therefore, you should find an interesting and suitable activity that you enjoy," said Dr. Al Shehhi.
Dr. Mohamed Helal, Director of Student Athletics and Recreation Department, gave a brief description about the various sports and recreation programs, available training sessions, procedure for joining the sports teams and the process of gaining athletic scholarships.
Three former students-Julie Doughan, Yahia Adel Al Sharif and Rihab Badshah-shared with new students their athletic experiences as AUS sports team members. Other student athletes then displayed skills and techniques of selected sports.
Following that, the new students participated in the games with great enthusiasm and then registered to tryout various sports and fitness programs. They were then taken on a tour of the sports facilities.
AUS has 23 sports teams: 13 for men and 10 for women.
