SEWA and AUS celebrate 2019 Excellence Diploma graduation

At a ceremony held at American University of Sharjah (AUS) campus on November 25, the Sharjah Electricity and Water Authority (SEWA) and the university recognized SEWA employees who have recently completed the 2019 Excellence Diploma. A collaboration between AUS Executive Education and the Department of Industrial Engineering in the AUS College of Engineering, the program provided training to 20 participants from various SEWA departments.

Through the program, candidates undergo theoretical and practical training relevant to their role in SEWA. Classes and projects cover both management and engineering topics, carefully selected by the AUS Department of Industrial Engineering. The eight-month program prepares participants for the challenges they might face in their future roles within SEWA, honing their problem-solving, critical thinking and leadership capacities.

H.E. Dr. Rashid Alleem, Chairman of Sharjah Electricity and Water Authority (SEWA), said: “Knowledge is power if applied and shared.”

The program was developed and delivered by AUS faculty as well as subject matter experts, well-known for combining academic rigor with practical application.

A focus of the program has been ensuring SEWA is equipped with the knowledge required to utilize advances in big data and resulting smart technology— a trend being seen across the UAE. AUS’ Dr. Moncer Hariga, Head of the Department of Industrial Engineering, has led the development and delivery of the program. He said:

“Participants of the program act as change-agents within SEWA, demonstrating to the rest of the organization the value that comes with embracing new technologies and new ways of thinking. Advances in technology and the new world of work mean these Excellence Diploma graduates operate in an environment where knowledge from multiple fields is essential. Importantly, these graduates need to understand how to learn and adapt to future changes for the betterment of the organization. The knowledge and skills provided by the Excellence Diploma will allow them to do this.”

AUS offers a wide variety of executive education opportunities, such as custom programs, executive diplomas and professional certificates. For more information, please visit execed.aus.edu.
