Sharjah Ruler meets new AUS faculty
His Highness Sheikh Sultan Bin Mohammed Al Qassimi, Member of the Supreme Council, Ruler of Sharjah and President of American University of Sharjah (AUS), met today October 24, with new faculty members who joined AUS this semester and welcomed them to the university. The Sharjah Ruler also attended a special luncheon held in their honor.
Thirty-six new faculty members have joined AUS this semester, increasing the total number of full-time faculty at the university to 356. A majority of AUS faculty have received their terminal degrees from North American universities. The university is known throughout the region for the quality of its faculty. This was acknowledged internationally in September this year with the London-based Quacquarelli Symonds (QS), one of the world's most trusted university rankings, adding AUS among the ranks of the world's top 500 universities for the first time. Of more than 2,500 global institutions considered, AUS was ranked in the top 401-450 bracket for 2012-2013.
The luncheon was also attended by Dr. Peter Heath, Chancellor of AUS, as well as the Provost, vice-chancellors, deans, and other university officials.
