SLP Students Learn about Family Businesses at Youth Business Voice
Twelve students from the Student Leadership Program (SLP) at the Office of Student Affairs, American University of Sharjah (AUS) took part in Youth Business Voice held by Dubai Startup Hub in partnership with Youth Hub on January 17 at Jumeirah Emirates Towers in Dubai.
“Overcoming Challenges and Growing within Your Family Business” was the main topic of the session. The panel hosted Alia Al Mazroui, Chief Operating Officer of Mazrui International LLC, and Khaled Al Fahim, Board Advisor of Al Fahim Group, to talk about their personal experiences, challenges and achievements through their family businesses. The panel discussion was followed by a Q&A session, open forum and interactive feedback.
Speaking of the experience, Shaham Thekkumury, a computer science freshmen major said:
“Attending Youth Business Voice opened my eyes to what it takes working for family businesses. The event was informative and exciting, touching on various topics including the best way to keep a family business running for generations, how to form a family business, and how to deal with conflicts that take place in a family business environment.”
Commenting on how students benefit from participating in such events, Dr. Moza Al Shehhi, Dean of Students, said:
“It is important for students to take part in various forums to enrich their knowledge on diverse topics related to family businesses, startups, innovation and entrepreneurship. The interactive sessions highlighted real life experiences of professionals in different fields and industries. I encourage more students to take part in opportunities as such as these provided by SLP.”
