Students awarded active and partial athletic scholarships

The Office of Student Affairs at American University of Sharjah (AUS) awarded Active Student and Partial Athletic Scholarships to 27 students for Spring 2019 at a ceremony held recently at the AUS Student Center.

The AUS Active Student Scholarship is aimed at providing scholarships to outstanding active students who demonstrate excellence in extracurricular activities and whose efforts yield exceptional results and inspire other students to become high achievers. The scholarship entitles the recipient to up to 25 percent tuition remission for one semester. The nine students awarded the scholarship for their work this semester are:

Yameena Naqvi – Community Services

Mariyam Siddiqi – Community Services

Eman Arafeh – Leadership Program

Nidal A. Sherif – Leadership Program

Harleen Kaur – Clubs and Organizations

Abdulla Emad Abubaker – Clubs and Organizations

Maryam Mostafa – Clubs and Organizations

Marwa Magdi Ibrahim – Clubs and Organizations

Sarah Zaafarany – Clubs and Organizations   

Eighteen students received the AUS Partial Athletic Scholarship for this semester. The scholarship is awarded to talented student-athletes who excel in sports, exhibit good sportsmanship and dedication and establish a record of consistent participation. The scholarship aims to encourage student participation, develop sports at the university and promote the role of athletics in an American model of higher education. The scholarship entitles the recipient to an award of up to 25 percent tuition remission for one semester.

Mohammed Zainuddin Ahmed - Men's Basketball

Mohamed Harb - Men's Volleyball

Ziad Ahmed - Men's Volleyball

Aamar Yasir - Men's Cricket

Ahmed Muhammad Azmeer - Men's Cricket

Ahmed Eladl - Men's Swimming

Dina Ayman Allam - Women's Swimming

Rasha Darra - Women's Basketball

Amira Boudrai - Women's Soccer

Katreena Halasa - Women's Volleyball  

Dhriti Adyanthaya - Women's Badminton

Jaffar Mohsen - Men's Powerlifting

Mihails Balonuskovs - Men's Table Tennis

Sara Abbas - Women's Squash and Table Tennis

Eshta Kataria - Women's Badminton

Srushti Kothari - Women's Table Tennis

The ceremony was attended by Dr. Juan Sanchez, Provost and Chief Academic Officer; Professor Kevin Mitchell, Vice Provost for Undergraduate Affairs and Instruction; Munketh Taha, Director, Student Development and Organizations, and Acting Director, Student Athletics and Recreation; Dr. Ashraf Khallaf, Associate Professor of Accounting and member of the OSA Scholarship Selection Committee; as well as OSA officials and student awardees.
