Sultan visits AUS Club Fair
Students at American University of Sharjah (AUS) felt honored when His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan Bin Mohammad Al Qassimi, Supreme Council Member, Ruler of Sharjah and President of AUS, visited their Club Fair on February 17, along with members of the AUS Board of Trustees.
The two-day event, which is held each semester, gives new students a chance to sign up for the many cultural and common interest clubs on the AUS campus. This semester 55 clubs participated in the fair: 28 ethnic clubs and 27 interest-oriented clubs.
Organized by the Office of Student Affairs, the fair was inaugurated by Sheikh Dr. Sultan. Welcoming the visit of His Highness the Ruler of Sharjah to the Club Fair, Dr. Moza Al Shehhi, Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs said, "We are proud to have His Highness the Ruler of Sharjah visiting the Club Fair this time. We aim for our students to avail the extracurricular opportunities offered to them and which they benefit from as out of classroom learning experiences. Club Fair is not just a membership drive, it is a reflection of the vibrant campus life we have at AUS." Present were also members of the AUS Board of Trustees, Dr. Peter Heath, AUS Chancellor and senior university officials.
His Highness the Ruler of Sharjah and members of the Board of Trustees walked around the Student Center marveling at the effort behind the colorful stalls, which were divided into segments for the ethnic clubs, the Student Council, interest-oriented clubs and the Student Affairs departments.
At the Emirati Club stall, His Highness the Ruler of Sharjah signed the guestbook with "With my best wishes for your continued success."
The Club Fair highlights the culturally diverse AUS community and encourages students to use the university's non-academic student support services as well as engage in the many out-of-classroom learning opportunities the university offers its students.
