AUS awards DP World employees
American University of Sharjah (AUS) held an award ceremony for the completion of a Business English Program for DP World employees on June 28. A total of 53 participants received their certificates at the ceremony.
The courses were offered by the AUS Achievement Academy's Outreach Program. The program included five classes in different levels; elementary, pre-intermediate, and intermediate.
"I am very excited to be here at this celebration. This training is just part of our commitment to serve the community. We are also looking forward to establishing our partnership with DP even further," said Ali Shuhaimy, Vice Chancellor for Enrollment Management.
"One of the things that distinguished AUS apart from the other organizations was the fact that they worked the program around our specific requirements. I believe that this link has strengthened our partnership with AUS even further," said Clive Reed, Human Resources Advisor to DP World. "English is the language of business. The higher up you go in business, the more important English becomes. So let's continue to learn and go from strength to strength," he added, advising the participants.
Instructors who taught on the program also received certificates of appreciation.
"During our classes, we had conversations and gave presentations to improve our speaking. Everybody learned new grammar and new vocabulary," said Mubarak Fayez, a participant in the program who completed the elementary class.
The event was attended by Dr. Tom Alibrandi, Director of the Achievement Academy as well as other senior officials from both AUS and DP World.
Dubai-based DP World operates more than 60 shipping terminals across six continents. In addition, the company currently has 11 new developments and major expansions underway in 10 countries.
The AUS Achievement Academy will offer two more courses in both AUS and DP Khorfakkan this fall.
