Renowned master of Islamic calligraphy visits AUS
Islamic calligraphy expert Haji Noor Deen Mi Guang Jiang recently conducted a workshop at AUS, which was attended by students from the College of Architecture, Art and Design and the College of Arts and Sciences. Noor Deen is a renowned master of a calligraphic technique that uniquely fuses both the Chinese and Arabic scripts. He created two pieces during the workshop using traditional Chinese calligraphy combined with Arabic calligraphy, which he then presented to AUS.
The calligrapher's ability to deliver his craft to an audience has brought him workshop invitations from renowned institutions including Harvard University, Cambridge University and Massachusetts Institute of Technology. Noor Deen is currently developing his own gallery called The Chinese House for the Arts of Islamic Arabic Calligraphy and the Arabic Calligraphy Creative Centre, at the National Academy of Painting and Calligraphy in Henan Province, China.
