As the most diverse of the four schools that make up AUS, the College of Arts and Sciences (CAS) is able to provide a variety of services that draw on knowledge from physics to the performing arts or English to ethics. More than 165 professors and instructors bring academic training from well-known centers of learning in the West and combine it with a sensitivity for the culture of the Arab World. We are leaders in material science, mathematical sciences, environmental sciences, intercultural communication and international relations. Whether your organization needs to address a current problem or develop the skills needed to prepare for the future, we are sure we can help.

We welcome visits from the community that allow us to explain and demonstrate all our college has to offer. Even if you do not have a current problem in mind, come and see some of the new and innovative things in which we are currently engaged. We guarantee that it will stimulate your thinking and provide ideas for new solutions and new directions.

What Can We Offer YOU?

The College of Arts and Sciences (CAS) helps individuals and enterprises in many ways. Whether you are a government executive looking for programs to help develop your team, a business leader hoping for more effective public relations messaging, a nonprofit seeking ethical advice or an entrepreneur working to commercialize a new technology, we can help you. Take a look at the following list for a sample of the types of services we provide.

  • Courses: CAS offers a wide range of courses in technical topics ranging from actuarial mathematics to video production. Our repertoire also includes instruction in professional skills as diverse as translation and tourism development and leadership soft skills such as business writing and intercultural communication. Some courses are offered on an open enrollment basis, but most are custom designed for client requirements.
     
  • Programs: For organizations interested in providing their staff with sustained development opportunities, nothing beats our professional development programs. These custom solutions offer a carefully tailored curriculum based on a needs assessment of your current and future requirements. Programs can be delivered during work hours, in the evening or on weekends to best address the needs of your staff.
     
  • Lab Training and Certifications: A variety of professional certifications and laboratory instruction on a wide range of technical skills are available at our state-of-the-art facilities. Testing, media development and equipment training are available, all under the supervision of our experienced staff.
     
  • Consulting and Applied Research: Our expert advisory services put world-class faculty knowledge at your disposal. Many of our clients ask for specific expertise in the application of academic principles to real-world problems. Such requests can range from the best way to deal with sensitive environmental issues to expert statistical input on public policy questions. Solutions can involve extended research studies or personal and individual coaching based on a careful needs assessment.
     
  • Internships: Our students are recognized around the region for their commitment, their competence and eagerness to learn. If your organization can benefit from some additional short-term help and fresh ideas based on the latest knowledge in your field, consider hosting a student intern. This gives students a great chance to learn with your organization. You may join the ever-increasing roster of employers who are so impressed with the skills and work performance of our students that they find it difficult to let them go!
     
  • Conferences: AUS hosts a variety of academic and professional conferences each year. Many of these are open to the public and give members of the community a chance to learn what is new in their field of work. We are also open to helping organizations in the community organize conferences for customers, employees or other stakeholders. Contact us about your plans to get people together for a stimulating learning event.
     
  • Teacher Training: The College of Arts and Sciences provides in-service training and updating sessions for secondary school teachers in many disciplines. If you want to make certain that your instructors are teaching the latest and most useful material in their classes, have them participate in one of our in-service continuing education sessions.

The breadth and depth of the expertise our faculty and staff offer provide excellent value for money for meeting both current and future needs.

Communications

The College of Arts and Sciences includes departments specializing in Arabic and translation studies, English, mass communications, performing arts and writing studies. The expertise of faculty in these areas is known and respected throughout the Gulf region. Natural Sciences and Mathematics

Three of our departments offer exceptional knowledge of the physical and mathematical sciences. The Department of Biology, Chemistry and Environmental Sciences can provide expert assistance to any organization concerned with pollution, environmental monitoring and chemical processes. The Department of Mathematics and Statistics can provide support to enterprises dealing with statistical analysis and advanced mathematics, such as insurance, finance and public policy. The Department of Physics supports companies dealing with complex physical phenomena such as radiation, solid state physics or superconductivity. Our specific areas of expertise include:

Leadership and Policy

The Department of International Studies is perhaps the most diverse faculty at AUS, with expertise in disciplines such as archeology, history, international affairs, philosophy, politics, psychology and sociology. Our professors empower clients working to solve difficult leadership issues in any context as well as questions of domestic and international policy. Our specific areas of expertise include:
