54 Sharjah government employees complete course at AUS
A ceremony awarding 54 Sharjah government employees was held at AUS earlier this month. The awardees had completed the Sharjah Directorate of Human Resources General English and Business English Program at AUS in Fall 2012.
The Directorate of Human Resources (DHR) of the Government of Sharjah and AUS signed a Memorandum of Understanding on January 16, 2011 as part of the university's mission to engage with organizations in the emirate. The purpose of the MOU is to provide a framework of cooperation and facilitate collaboration between the institutions.
The employees completed a 60-hour program of general and business English at four different levels: basic and elementary, pre-intermediate and intermediate. Nineteen Certificates of Distinction were awarded to outstanding participants.
Tariq Bin Khadim, Member of the Sharjah Executive Council and Chairman of the Directorate of Human Resources in Sharjah; Salem Al Qaseer, AUS Vice Chancellor for Public Affairs; Dr. Thomas Alibrandi, Director of the AUS Achievement Academy; and Saeed Al Shamsi, AUS Director of Public Relations, attended the ceremony.
"We are extremely pleased to continue working in partnership with the Sharjah Directorate of Human Resources to provide General and Business English courses," said Lina Hejjawi, Outreach Program Manager at the AUS Achievement Academy. "The course concentrates on a range of professional activities that can often prove challenging to second language speakers such as socializing, telephoning, giving presentations, taking part in meetings and video conferencing," she added.
