Engineering excellence celebrated at CEN Honors Convocation
The College of Engineering (CEN) at American University of Sharjah (AUS) held its annual Honors Convocation on February 10, recognizing undergraduate students whose academic achievements reflect dedication, discipline and excellence.
The ceremony honored students who earned a GPA of 3.5 or higher and were named to the Dean’s List during the Fall 2024 and Spring 2025 semesters. In total, 602 engineering students were recognized, marking one of the largest celebrations of academic achievement in the college’s history.
“This convocation is a celebration of the hard work and resilience our students demonstrate every day, and it highlights the culture of excellence that defines CEN. This year is especially meaningful as we honor students from newly launched programs that reflect CEN’s continued evolution and our commitment to preparing engineers for emerging fields shaping the region and the world,” said Dr. Fadi Aloul, Dean of CEN.
Recognized for the first time this year were students from CEN’s newest undergraduate programs: the Bachelor of Science in Chemical and Biological Engineering, Bachelor of Science in Digital Construction Engineering and Management, and Bachelor of Science in Intelligent Systems and Mechatronics Engineering. Also new this year were special trophies for the highest levels of academic performance, which were awarded to 16 students named to the Chancellor’s List for the 2024–2025 academic year, all of whom achieved a perfect cumulative GPA of 4.0.
Prerana Ramkumar, one of the honorees, described the moment as both personal and collective. “It’s a moment of reflection for me,” Ramkumar said. “Beyond the personal achievement, I see it as a shared success.” She added that the recognition was made possible through strong academic support, noting her gratitude to the dean, associate dean, head of department and faculty members “who provided the guidance that turned my hard work into something meaningful.”
The ceremony brought together students, families, faculty members, alumni and college leadership in a shared celebration that underscored the importance of academic culture and community.
The CEN Honors Convocation also featured a keynote address by Alya Al Shehhi, a technical expert at Dubai Airports and a computer engineering alumna, who reflected on the evolving nature of engineering careers and the importance of adaptability, leadership and ethical responsibility.
The CEN Honors Convocation is one of several initiatives through which the College of Engineering celebrates student achievement, including the CEN Annual Excellence Awards, the Senior Design Competition and the Undergraduate Research Grants Recipients Recognition Ceremony.
