AUS celebrates corporate engagement impact at annual appreciation gala
American University of Sharjah (AUS) hosted its annual Corporate Appreciation Gala on November 2 to recognize its corporate supporters of advancement and to celebrate the impact of their engagement.
Sponsored by and held at the Grand Millennium Business Bay Hotel in Dubai, leading international, regional and local corporate entities were recognized during the event that was attended by over 100 business leaders and senior executives. The event recognized campus-wide corporate engagement support towards advancement efforts of AUS throughout the academic year 2021–2022.
Dr. Susan Mumm, Chancellor of AUS, expressed her appreciation to the companies and organizations recognized at the event.
“A partnership goes both ways. As we build partnerships and explore future collaborations, our students and faculty continue to have the opportunities of mutually beneficial initiatives with leading companies and organizations like yours. These mutually beneficial partnerships can produce groundbreaking research and innovation that drives economic growth, and creates a more skilled workforce,” Chancellor Mumm said.
Speaking on the importance of corporate partnerships, Rania Morsi, Interim Executive Director of Advancement and Alumni Affairs, said: “Known throughout the region for its outstanding graduates, AUS is committed to building mutually productive and sustainable strategic relations with the corporate community. Our goal is to create value for our corporate partners by providing opportunities to enhance visibility among our students, faculty and alumni. Your support helps students benefit not only from internships and employment opportunities, but also from being involved in the research partnerships we build with companies in the region.”
Organized by the Office of Advancement and Alumni Affairs (OAAA), the event included an appreciation ceremony where Chancellor Mumm recognized major donors for their continuous support and generous contributions towards scholarship or research at AUS. These included Al Maktoum Foundation, Emirates Global Aluminium, General Electric and Sharjah National Oil Corporation (SNOC).
Organizations that helped AUS achieve its academic mission by supporting its institutional advancement endeavors with major and significant contributions were recognized with the Leaders of Excellence Award. Those recognized under this category included Beeah, Dubai Design District (d3), Emaar and Petrofac.
Impact Leaders were also recognized for their personal contributions towards advancing the relationships between their organizations and AUS. These included H.E. Huda Khamis Kanoo, Founder of Abu Dhabi Music and Arts Foundation (ADMAF); Abdalla Alzarooni, Vice President, Technology Development & Transfer, EGA; Ghada Abdel Khaleq, Senior Vice President, Crescent Enterprises; Maher Emil, General Manager, DuPont; Ziad Alhazmi, Chief Executive Officer at Lufthansa Technik Middle East; and Jonathan Dyke, Head of Communications, Petrofac.
OAAA also presented the Corporate Campus Engagement Award, which AUS students and graduates the opportunity to vote for companies and organizations they feel have most meaningfully connected with them during the past academic year. The result of this poll saw the recognition of Fazaa, L’Oréal Middle East and Sharjah Cooperative Society.
During the evening, the Alumni Volunteer Service Award was also presented to recognize the exceptional institutional engagement and service of alumni in supporting the educational mission of AUS. The recipients of this award were Yousif Habil (College of Architecture, Art and Design, Class of 2007); Mary Moussa (College of Arts and Sciences, Class of 2015); Omar Afana (College of Engineering, Class of 2009); and Fadel Zeinuddein (School of Business Administration, Class of 2003). An honorable mention was also given to alumna Lama Junaid (MBA, Class of 2017).
