AUS honors the spirit of Ramadan with annual charity iftar for campus workers
In the true spirit of the holy month of Ramadan, American University of Sharjah (AUS) recently hosted its annual charity iftar dedicated to the laborers working on the AUS campus in the University City of Sharjah. The event, organized by the AUS Community Service and Outreach division, brought together 27 AUS student volunteers and 70 workers to break their fast together.
The charity iftar aimed to express gratitude towards the workers whose unwavering efforts maintain the extensive grounds of the AUS campus. During the event, AUS volunteers distributed gifts to the workers and socialized with these honored guests over the shared meal, creating a festive and welcoming atmosphere that reflected the spirit of Ramadan.
"As a university that values social responsibility and community engagement, we're proud to organize this charity iftar to honor the spirit of Ramadan and give back to those who play such an important role in keeping our campus beautiful," said Haifa Ismail, the Director of Student Leadership and Engagement at AUS. "Through this event, we hope to promote a spirit of empathy and compassion among our community, and encourage our students to continue engaging in meaningful acts of service and supporting those who contribute meaningfully to our campus community."
Ayda Atallah, a third-year chemical engineering student, expressed her gratitude for the opportunity to volunteer in the iftar.
“As a volunteer, it was heartening to see the workers feeling appreciated and happy, knowing their efforts contribute to the university’s success. The event was a success with an unexpectedly large turnout, and it was inspiring to see everyone come together in a spirit of unity to achieve common goals. The workers’ genuine contentment and smiles on their faces prove that even small acts of kindness can have a profound impact,” Atallah said.
Social responsibility is an important part of the AUS student experience, with the university supporting various initiatives and programs that make a positive impact on society and create a culture of giving.
