AUS Sharakah January events promote sportsmanship, artistic expression and knowledge sharing
As January came to a close, the American University of Sharjah (AUS) Sharakah Program concluded a series of educational and entertainment events designed to stimulate collaboration among schools across the UAE.
The AUS Sharakah Program, part of the university's community engagement initiative, aims to foster partnerships with select schools in the UAE through engaging teachers and students with various events, workshops, academic activities and sports competitions. It alos offers exclusive scholarships to students from Sharakah partner schools.
The Sharakah Sports Festival, a highly anticipated event, drew an impressive crowd of nearly 2,900 female and male students from 60 schools. The day featured a wide range of athletic activities, including a 100-meter race, table tennis, volleyball, basketball and soccer. Participants were treated to an array of delightful activities, including Scratch N Win, free popcorn, cotton candy, henna designs, face painting and even a bouncy castle, making it a memorable day for all.
"This significant sports event holds a special place in the hearts of our Al Mawakeb School students, as it provides them with a platform to demonstrate their sportsmanship," said Ali Nefzi, Sports Coordinator at Al Mawakeb School.
Held in collaboration with the Department of Biology, Chemistry and Environmental Sciences within the College of Arts and Sciences, the workshop Careers in Medicine and Health Sciences attracted 350 students from 12 Sharakah schools. Engaging in fun and educational experiments relating to human biology, physiology, exercise and nutrition, students also learned about the science programs and pre-medical courses at AUS and explored the laboratories and science buildings.
Inspired by the collaborative spirit of COP28 held in Dubai recently, the COP28 Arts Challenge was another highlight of the January events. A total of 25 drawings from 9 Sharakah Schools, showcasing their creativity and dedication to combating climate change. The winners were selected based on three categories: the highest number of likes on Instagram, votes during the ceremony by audience, students and teachers and AUS Sharakah team votes during the ceremony.
“Our commitment is to foster collaboration and unity among students from diverse backgrounds. These events held in January embody our dedication to empowering youth, providing opportunities for exploration, and nurturing a sense of togetherness through engaging activities and educational initiatives," said Hala Al Jundi, Sharakah Program Officer at AUS.
