AUS student volunteers organize activities at Al Thiqah Club for Handicapped
Students from American University of Sharjah (AUS) participated in a Fun Day at Al Thiqah Club recently organized by the university's Community Services Division in collaboration with Al Thiqah Club for Handicapped.
AUS student volunteers organized a wide variety of activities at the men's branch of Al Thiqah Club on April 20. These included sports events, computer software sessions, making flower gardens, face painting and much more. The next day, volunteers visited the women's branch where they organized painting activities as well as a basketball contest, and a singing competition.
"This year we have witnessed an increase in student interest for off campus activities and volunteering opportunities," said Dr. Moza Al Shehhi, Dean of Students. "At Student Affairs, we are committed to promoting out-of-class learning by fulfilling student demands for activities that benefit both our students and the community. The two-day visit and activities at Al Thiqah Club was very rewarding for our students as they appreciate the difficulties that physically challenged people face," added Dr. Al Shehhi.
Commenting on his experience, Bassim Younis, a mechanical engineering major, said: "After visiting the club, I believe that we all have a moral obligation and a responsibility towards our society and all its members regardless of their abilities.
The Community Services Division aims to promote student engagement in activities that help benefit various other sections of society.
