Greenwood International School and AUS sign Sharakah agreement
American University of Sharjah (AUS) and Greenwood International School-Dubai signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) as part of the Sharakah program at a special ceremony held recently at the university campus. The Sharakah program is a strategic initiative of the AUS Office of Enrollment Management with selected schools from around the country.
Ali Shuhaimy, Executive Director of Enrollment Management at AUS, and Lina Zarif, Principal of Greenwood International School, signed the MoU on behalf of their respective institutions.
Commenting on the agreement, Shuhaimy said:
“We have schools in all the emirates that are now members of the Sharakah program. It’s through this program that we try to close the gap between schools and our university as much as possible by serving students in many ways, including through the many competitions and challenges we hold. Another aspect of the program is to try and connect with teachers in the schools and conduct workshops for them so that they can go back to their classrooms and direct their students toward what universities expect.”
Also commenting on the agreement was Zarif who said:
“On behalf of the governing board of Greenwood International School and its administration, we would like to thank AUS for giving us this opportunity. Based on the feedback we receive from our graduates who are now at AUS, we are convinced that this university is preparing our students to be the leaders that this country deserves.”
The Sharakah agreement highlights the university’s role in the recruitment of outstanding students from varied socio-cultural and economic backgrounds. According to the MoU, AUS will provide partial scholarships to deserving students nominated by the school. AUS will also offer patronage of selected research, cultural, social, and sporting events organized by the school, in addition to organizing workshops for the school’s faculty and staff. The university will also make SAT, TOEFL and IELTS preparation courses available to the students of Greenwood International School-Dubai.
Also present on the occasion were Kevin Mitchell, AUS Interim Provost; students from Greenwood International School as well as it’s alumni that are now enrolled at AUS.
