Delegates from RTI International (Research Triangle Institute) visited AUS on October 11 and met with university administrators to discuss possible research collaboration between the two institutions. Headquartered in North Carolina, USA, RTI International is one of the world's leading research institutes.
The meeting included a discussion on a possible collaboration in environmental sciences, including public health projects and air pollution projects and monitoring. The AUS administration and the RTI team agreed to follow-up by drafting a Memorandum of Understanding to define the collaboration.
The RTI team consisted of Dr. Terrence K. Pierson, Vice President for Climate Change and Environmental Services; Dr. Janet B. Mitchell, Vice President for Social Policy, Health and Economics Research; Dr. Gary A. Zarkin, Division Vice President for Behavioral Health and Criminal Justice Research; Robert Zerbonia, Environmental Monitoring Project Manager; and Mahmoud Taha, Director of Business Development, Social, Statistical and Environmental Sciences.
AUS officials in attendance included Dr. Peter Heath, Chancellor; Dr. Thomas John Hochstettler, Provost; Dr. Mark Edward Rush, Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences; and Dr. Nasser Hamdan, Professor of Physics.
