The Sharjah Social Services Department (SSSD) and American University of Sharjah’s (AUS) Community Service and Outreach division signed a collaboration agreement on August 31 at AUS to foster a culture of volunteerism among students.
The agreement was signed by Hessa Muhammad Al-Hammadi, Director of the Department of Community Cohesion at SSSD, and Haifa Ismail, Director of Student Engagement and Leadership at AUS.
As part of the agreement, the two institutions will be sharing announcements about volunteer opportunities on social media and the Sharjah Volunteer Work Platform, to further engage with the public and raise awareness about these opportunities.
The agreement also entails follow-up on the implementation of volunteer activities as well as the production of a documentary film highlighting the importance of volunteer work for university students. The two institutions will also organize awareness and educational programs, honor volunteers, and exchange experiences and knowledge.
The SSSD will be inviting AUS to participate in forums and events focused on volunteer work and provide volunteers with opportunities to participate in its events. AUS will also be represented in the UAE Volunteer Work Association and organize volunteer opportunities.
Al-Hammadi highlighted the importance of this partnership with AUS, noting that the SSSD, represented by the Sharjah Center for Volunteer Work, seeks to expand the scope of volunteer work in Sharjah by facilitating the process and offering volunteer opportunities through the Sharjah Volunteer Work Platform.
She also noted that AUS is one of the leading academic institutions in the country and has been implementing diverse volunteer projects and attracting large numbers of student volunteers. Al-Hammadi said that the agreement will contribute to enhancing the role of youth in serving society. She also stressed the commitment of the Sharjah Center for Volunteer Work to implement all provisions of the agreement and achieve common goals.
“This agreement is an opportunity for cooperation, encouraging student volunteerism and raising awareness about the importance of social responsibility. We, in the Community Service and Outreach division at AUS, look forward to a fruitful collaboration to further enhance our students’ experiences in the field of volunteer work,” said Ismail.
