AUS named official partner for World Engineering Day for Sustainable Development 2026
American University of Sharjah (AUS) has been selected as an official partner for World Engineering Day for Sustainable Development (WED) 2026, the annual initiative that highlights the essential role of engineering and engineers in addressing global challenges.
As a leader in higher education—particularly in engineering—AUS equips its graduates with the knowledge, skills and practical experience needed to succeed in an increasingly globalised world and to contribute meaningfully to sustainable development.
“Being an official partner for WED 2026 allows AUS to contribute to a global conversation that starts with education,” said Dr. Fadi Aloul, Dean of the AUS College of Engineering. “Our focus on Sustainable Development Goal 4, Quality Education, is reflected in a rigorous, hands-on engineering education, strengthened by industry engagement and impactful projects that solve real-world challenges. This prepares our graduates to lead innovation responsibly and deliver sustainable solutions across sectors and communities.”
“This partnership reflects where AUS is today, rooted in the emirate of Sharjah and fully engaged on the global stage,” said Alanood Aldhaher, Director of Strategic Communications and Marketing at AUS. “It speaks to our forward approach by building international visibility through work that is meaningful and credible, anchored in our values and aligned with the priorities shaping communities worldwide. It also reinforces AUS as a university that contributes with purpose through partnerships that strengthen our reputation, extend our reach and create long-term value.”
WED launched in Jakarta, Indonesia, on 4 March 2026, marking the start of a year-long campaign of events, films, features and news. This year’s theme is “Smart engineering for a sustainable future through innovation and digitalisation.”
An official International Day proclaimed by UNESCO, WED is operated by the World Federation of Engineering Organisations (WFEO), the global body representing members from more than 100 countries and over 30 million engineers worldwide.
WED 2026 provides governments, UN-associated organisations, policymakers, educators and leaders in the public and private sectors with an opportunity to raise awareness of the importance of engineering. All campaign content will be produced by SJH Studios—the official media partner and broadcaster for WED—and hosted on the official WED website at www.worldengineeringday.net.
Seng-Chuan Tan, President of the WFEO, said: “World Engineering Day brings together engineers, governments, academia, industries and individuals to exchange ideas, drive innovation and take meaningful action. Collaboration is essential—we must work together to transform innovative ideas into real-world impact. When we bring together different voices, perspectives and expertise, we create stronger, more sustainable solutions.”
Eleanor Hall, SJH Operations Director for WED, said: “As the official media partner for World Engineering Day, the team at SJH Studios is excited to help present this year’s celebration of engineering and delighted to have the American University of Sharjah on board as a global authority in higher education.”
