AUS hosts 3rd Sharjah Conference for Human Resources
Under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan Bin Mohammed Al Qassimi, Member of the Supreme Council, Ruler of Sharjah and President of American University of Sharjah (AUS), the Third Sharjah Conference for Human Resources was held at the university on December 10, 2014. The conference was inaugurated by His Excellency Sheikh Sultan Bin Mohammed Bin Sultan Al Qassimi, Crown Prince and Deputy Ruler of Sharjah.
Attendees present included Tarik Sultan Bin Khadim, Head of the Directorate of Human Resources; Sayed Aqa, United Nations Resident Coordinator and UNDP Resident Representative for UAE, Qatar and Oman; Dr. Björn Kjerfve, Chancellor of American University of Sharjah; and other government officials, academics and members of the public.
The conference opened with a short documentary that focused on nationality and the national workforce.
In his opening address, Tarik Sultan Bin Khadim highlighted the importance of empowering the workforce as it represents the foundation and basis of a developing country. "The construction of the future depends on human building, where manpower constitutes the most important factor affecting the progress and development of countries," he said.Sayed Aqa also spoke during the conference and said, "No doubt that the most valuable asset of any country or firm is its human resources. They are its true strength. To face new challenges of knowledge, technology and changing trends in ever increasing global competitive economy, effective and well trained human resource is the key to success."
"We are pleased to be working with the Directorate of Human Resources once again from our educational angle," said Chancellor Kjerfve. "It is collaborations such as this that help strengthen the bonds of a strong and mutually beneficial relationship.
The two-day conference focused on supporting and improving the development of human resources to sustain leadership and innovation among national human cadres. The goal is to empower the human resources available in order to improve employee capabilities in acquiring awareness and skills in the work environment.
