Student Council Elections

Members of the Student Council are elected annually by the AUS student body. The election provides an opportunity for students to select their representatives who will be their voice for issues and concerns about student life.

Elected Positions

There are 14 positions in the Student Council that are filled through the annual elections.

Executive Board

  • President
  • Vice President
  • Executive Assistant and Office Director
  • Vice President for Public Relations
  • Treasurer

Community Outreach Committee

  • Events and Activities Coordinator
  • Athletics and Sports Coordinator
  • Media Coordinator
  • Student Organizations and Campus Services Coordinator

Board of Colleges, Schools and Academic Programs

  • College of Architecture, Art and Design Representative
  • College of Arts and Sciences Representative
  • College of Engineering Representative
  • School of Business Administration Representative
  • Achievement Academy Bridge Program Representative

Nominations

Nominations will be made online, and students will receive an email with a link where they can nominate themselves. Nominations will be verified by the Office of Student Affairs (OSA) and successful nominees will be notified by email.

Students can nominate themselves to run for a post in the Student Council given that they fulfill the following general eligibility criteria:

  • be a full-time undergraduate student with a minimum of 12 credit hours
  • have a GPA of at least 2.5 at the time of nomination
  • have completed at least two semesters at AUS
  • be free from any violation of the Academic Integrity Code and/or Student Code of Conduct policy
  • be able to serve one complete year in the post
  • Candidates for the post of AABP Representative must have completed at least one semester at AUS.

Specific Eligibility Criteria for the Executive Board

To run for a post on the Student Council Executive Board, nominees must fulfill the following additional eligibility criteria:

  • prior experience in the Student Council or
  • prior experience as a member of the Executive Board of one or more officially registered university clubs for at least two semesters

Specific Eligibility Criteria for the Community Outreach Committee

To run for a post on the Community Outreach Committee, nominees must fulfill the following additional eligibility criteria:

  • prior experience with the Student Council or with clubs and organizations in a similar post or
  • proven experience or knowledge in the field of nomination

Campaign Rules and Regulations

  • The campaign period is determined by OSA.
  • Campaigns will be run through social media and the preferred platform is Instagram. No physical gatherings are allowed as the campaign is fully electronic.
  • Themes/colors of running parties/groups are subject to the approval of OSA.
  • All campaign materials—including digital posters, video clips, etc.—are subject to the review and approval of OSA before they are posted online.
  • Running parties/groups and independent candidates must create a dedicated Instagram account for the purpose of campaigns.
  • Social media accounts of OSA-registered clubs, organizations, associations and societies cannot be used in campaigns or to endorse a candidate.
  • No campaign funds are provided. Candidates opting for paid Instagram ads will be doing so at their own personal expense.
  • Candidates are not allowed to solicit for sponsors to fund their campaign. No commercial brands can be endorsed or promoted during the campaign.
  • Posts on Instagram campaign accounts must be in English and all information must be current, complete and relevant.
  • Candidates are fully responsible for all information posted on their respective Instagram campaign accounts.
  • Candidates will be asked to delete posts that are inappropriate and offensive in nature, including the use of offensive language. Corresponding disciplinary action applies.
  • Social media posts must not violate the Student Code of Conduct. Candidates found to be in violation of the Student Code of Conduct will face disciplinary action, which includes, but is not limited to, termination of candidacy.

Elections

The elections will be conducted online. All students will receive an email with a link to the online election platform where they can cast their votes. OSA will announce the winners once the election results are received from the AUS IT Department.
